A holy moment | a #ProjectHEART update

Updated: Aug 22, 2019

Tonight. It happened.

An ordinary writing session turned into an extraordinary moment.

I’ve been working on a particularly difficult chapter for the last three nights. Each night was a struggle. Words flowed, but I felt like I was a 2000 Chevy Cavalier sputtering up a steep hill. But I didn’t know what was coming around the bend.

I sat to write, to dive deeper into this chapter, to slowly crest this hill, then everything changed. My pen scratched furiously across the paper. I was a mad woman, writing in the margins, off the lines…until I stopped seeing lines altogether. I was so overcome that I put the pen down and dropped my face into my hands.

At nearly 90,000 words… I have reached the moment in the story where I know what it’s “about.” My character has discovered her emotional lie—the wound or misbelief that’s been holding her back, keeping her miserable.

I sat back in my chair. I was so overcome with emotions, but I couldn’t even cry. I sat in silence. It was a holy moment. Precious. I bathed in it. Savored it.

This is why I started telling this story. This is why consistently working on your project is important. You never know when your extraordinary moment will tap you on the shoulder, whisper in your ear, sit beside you.

My pen is blazing again… with purpose.
